A total of 16 instruments are to be painted and later auctioned off this summer. The proceeds will go towards the Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance and the Access to Music program for underprivileged children.

When presented with the challenge of turning the instrument into a piece of art, Batavia artist Rebecca Allen wanted to incorporate the Fox River.

“The river is a symbol of the Fox Valley area,” Allen said. “I liked the idea of painting an instrument.”Painted Violin

I have had the pleasure of seeing the violin pictured right in person and I must say, this is one gorgeous piece of work! The perspective and attention to detail show great craftsmanship alongside the birds fashioned by Lane Allen’s signature metal screen origami. Each of the painted instruments are those that are beyond any reasonable cost of repair, and in so undergoing their makeovers they have been recycled, and perhaps may even appreciate beyond their bid value! If you are anywhere near Aurora, IL, on June 26 this will be a great opportunity to pick up a wonderful rejuvenated instrument while supporting a fantastic cause;
